Soccer

This is our first year playing soccer. We have had two great games and Ward is helping coach which in itself is pretty funny to see. But what has blown me away are the parents. Ok, these are 3 and 4 year olds that basically swarm around the ball and just kick until they hopefully come in contact with the ball. But you would think that we were in the play-offs for the World Cup. Lucky for us most of our team mates are friends and we all are laid back and realize - these are 3 and 4 year old. But in the last two games the other team has included parents that think it is do or die. On Saturday we had on guy who stood at their goal and screamed the entire time at his little girl -"Ok, get that ball down here" - "You take that ball away from her/him" And then sometimes he would just scream. Funny thing was the little girl would rather do somersaults in the middle of the field than chase the ball. Anyway, I can see where the reports of fights between parents occur. I am just thankful that the kids are oblivious. These are a few pictures of the hornets from some of the games and practice. On Saturday Gage scored a goal, he was so proud (lucky for us it was on the correct goal). Davis thinks he is part of the team and loves to play during practice. He would love to play during the game too but we have told him he has to help Ward coach. Grandma and Fred cheered on the team on saturday.

Dr. Ellen Davis

Mr. Gage had is 4 year old check up today with Dr. Davis. Yes, he is about to turn 5 in a few months (Nov. 6th) but since he can go ahead and have his vaccines for kindergarten I decided to wait to have his check up closer to 5 so we won't have to go back again before kindergarten. He did an outstanding job. Stats include height of 3'3" and weight 31 pounds. He screamed bloody murder through 3 shots. Although he walked away with 2 pencils, 3 balls, a few stickers and some great band-aids I don't think he thought the shots were worth it. I felt horrible for him but I felt extra horrible for the children in the other rooms waiting for the Doctor to come in. It was like the scene from Nemo during the dentist visit. They must have thought Gage had an organ removed. I am going to look into tuba lessons because the boy has lungs. But the trauma was soon over and we were off to soccer practice. The cutest thing was when we picked him up at school and he said the class prayed for him today because of his shots.

Fun at Lake Lure

Last week we headed to Lake Lure, NC to meet "the gals from Springfield". Grammy, Debbie and Cathy. The weather was amazing and our time together was too short. One day we rented a boat to tour the lake and enjoy lunch on. I am not sure Grammy moved from her seat once we got her on the boat - but she was a trooper and stayed on for most of the ride. There was a great cove we found for swimming - the water was cool in spots and really clean - the perfect shade of green.

More Pictures from the boat...

An afternoon of Kayaking
I am not sure I have ever laughed so hard. Debbie took the boys on the kayak, which they loved - But Debbie also took Cathy on a short ride!

Dinner Out

We took a little time out of the water to eat at one of our favorite places on the Lake - Excuse the picture of me from the side - it is really scary!

Shopping, Hiking, Resting - we did it all. Check out Davis' new puppy - a white poodle with PINK ears.

Night Falls on the Lake
A few of my favorite pictures as evening ends at the lake. It is the most peaceful time. We just enjoyed the view from the deck and thought about how beautiful things really are.

Boys and Their Cars

Ward took the boys to the Food Lion Auto Fair today at Lowes Motor Speedway. It is one of the largest car shows in the country. Ward and Gage had gone in the past with Grandpa George but this was Davis' first time. I think they all really enjoyed seeing the different cars. Along with picking out their favorite corvettes they really liked the Monster Trucks. Gage is barely as tall as one of the tires on the trucks. You were able to walk around the entire track. Turn 4 has a really really steep embankment and the boys (Gage and D) had a blast running up to the top to have a picture taken. You can not tell how steep it is but when the race cars are in it is amazing. We are looking forward to heading out to the Nascar night race Saturday Oct 13th. Of course with Tony in the chase this year it will be far more exciting for me.

Here Fishy Fishy

I am late posting this one but last weekend the boys spent saturday morning fishing. The lake is very low due to our lack of rain but the fish were biting. I think Davis won the mini-tournament. He reeled in the most bluegills. And for your typical male fish story Gage "had a HUGE Catfish", that swam away with his worm. Of course he was busy talking while the fish enjoyed his worm and then moved along. They had a great time. It has become a ritual for them. They wake up early (as they do every morning) head to a little gas station, talk with the owner about what is biting, purchase worms, and candy to help them make it thru the morning. And then off to the Lake. They fish at out friends house, the Anthony's of Kathryn Anthony fame on Lake Wylie. We do catch and release so I never see these big fish. Ward has fond memories of fishing with his Grandfather Adcock from a small child up until he graduated from college. I am glad he is passing along this to the boys, along with stories of Grandpa Adcock.
